Saturday February 26th saw a record turnout of 163 adults start the 5th annual High Cup Nick Fell Race. Starting at the village hall, the route took the runners along the road to Bow Hall, across open country towards High Cup Gill and along the valley bottom before climbing the rocks up to the Nick. Runners then returned along the Pennine Way to Bow Hall, across fields to Pusgill Lane and back to the village hall.
The winner, Ricky Lightfoot did the run in 1hr 2m 43s, over a minute ahead of his nearest rival.
There have been many favourable comments from runners who praised the organisation of the event, the marshalling and the welcome they received from the village. The event raised £900 for the Village Hall. Thanks go to Morgan and Lucy Donnelly and Ray Walker for organising the whole event so brilliantly. And, of course, the Village Hall thanks all who contributed soup for the runners and cakes for the cake stall.
